Arizona Ends Succesful Season With a 9-8 Record

If you didn't have the opportunity to see the game on YouTube.com/TLN the #18th ranked Laxcats took on the #4 ranked Panthers Friday night in San Diego, CA.  The Cats got off to a slow start and found themselves on the short end of a 12-2 halftime score.  The trademark of the Arizona Team has always been never to give up and they fought back gallantly narrowing the final score to 13-7.

The Laxcats recovered from an early season 2 - 6 record to make it to the SLC semi-finals providing them an opportunity to compete against Chapman University.  Chapman will be playing Arizona State in the conference finals.  The 2012 Laxcats would like to thank everyone for their support during this exciting season and are looking forward to the 2012-2013 season and beyond!

Laxcats Improve Record to 7-6 Against San Diego

April 7, Del Mar, CA: Running in the Jam By The Sea Tournament on the Polo Fields in Del Mar, CA the Laxcats came out of the gate slowly, began a steady gallop after the quarter pole, took the lead halfway, and finished by 10 lengths ahead of a game University of San Diego, 18-8. Arizona's attack of Mike Hook, Willie Stanaback, and Zack Johnson kept the pace going netting 8 goals and dishing out 14 assists. The defense did another solid job continually getting the ball back to the offense.

The win, an extremely important SLC Divisional match with playoff implications was a total team effort with 7 other Laxcats scoring goals and 13 players in the scoring column including 5 defensive players. Arizona scored first before the Torero's took a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first but the 5 second quarter goals had the Laxcats ahead 7-5 at intermission. A 7 goal 3rd stanza performance doubled San Diego's output ending the quarter with a 14-7 lead.

Although it was disappointing due to technical issues, the game wasn't, as advertised, broadcasted by You Tube The Lacrosse Network, the contest was played before a terrific supportive crowd of alumni, parents, friends, recruits and other Tournament participants.

Thanks to Matt Holman for providing the University of Arizona the opportunity to be part of this fantastic Jam By The Sea Tournament at a special venue.

Come From Behind to Defeat Longhorns in double OT

March 30, Austin, TX: Arizona on the road for only the second time this season, spotted the University of Texas a 6-2 advantage in the 3rd quarter before scoring the last 5 goals of the game for a 7-6 win.  With the score still knotted at 6 after the first Overtime period, Laxcat senior captain Mike Hook took a cross crease pass and wasted little time before burying the game winner.  It was Hook's game leading 4th goal of the contest.

The loss particially revenged an 8-7 loss at the hands of Texas 2 years ago also in double overtime.  Today's win brings the Cats record from 2-6 to 6-5 with an opportunity to get back to .500 with a win over Texas State on Sunday in San Marcos, TX.

 Laxcats Defeat Aggies 21-10

March 27, Tucson, AZ: The University of Arizona Men's Lacrosse team welcomed their visitors, the University of California, Davis to Tucson last night but didn't show them much Southern hospitality.  Out scoring the Aggies 8-2 and 7-1 in the 1st and 2nd quarters respectively leading to an insurmountable 15-3 halftime advantage.

In the Laxcat first half the defense and offense both combined to shut down the Aggies and take control of the game.  Zach Johnson (4g/2a), Mike Hook 4g/0a and Willie Stanaback (3g/1a) did most of the damage on the offensive end.  At the defensive end Matt Duke-Rosati, Justin Ghio, Chris Plummer, Brenden Felix and Ian Parker all stepped up to allow the Aggies very little.

In the second half, Arizona emptied their bench from the beginning of the 3rd quarter with 37 players getting solid playing time and experience.  One highlight was Ryan Baker's 3 goal hat-trick from the defensive middie position.

Laxcats Defeat Buffalos 10-9 in a Thriller

March 23, Tucson, AZ: In one of the more entertaining games of the season, Arizona held on to a slim 1 goal victory ending their 4 game losing streak.  Jordan Goldstein's (2g/1a) second goal of the game came with 5:58 left in the 4th quarter on an assist from Willie Stanaback (1g/3a) proved to be the game winner.

On a beautiful night in the Old Pueblo, an enthusiastic crowd was treated to a terrific Lacrosse game by two teams that never gave in.  The excitement didn't let up through all 4 quarters as the score was tied 7 times and neither team held more then a 2 goal advantage.  Thanks to Colorado University, their players, coaches, and fans for making the trip to Tucson.
